Summary: Competitive federal grants for eligible state, local, tribal, and special-district governments and their agencies to establish or enhance request-based programs that prevent disclosure of covered personal information belonging to federal judges and their immediate family members.
The Bureau of Justice Assistance will fund new or enhanced programs that protect federal judges and their immediate family members by removing covered personal information from public records and preventing its future disclosure. Projects may improve databases, redaction procedures, privacy policies, confidential opt-out systems, interagency coordination, and related compliance monitoring.
Applicants must be eligible government entities or their agencies and must operate a state or local database or registry containing covered information. Category 1 supports new program implementation, while Category 2 supports enhancement of existing programs.
Who is eligible?
Applicant types: State governments; county governments; city or township governments; special district governments; federally recognized Native American tribal governments; other state or units of local government; and agencies of those government entities.
Applicants must be an eligible government entity or an agency of such an entity and must operate a state or local database or registry containing covered information as defined by the Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act of 2022. A law-enforcement or criminal-justice agency may qualify only if it is an agency of an eligible government entity and operates a qualifying database or registry.
What can the funding be used for?
Creating request-based redaction or removal programs; expanding existing judicial-information protection programs; developing or improving protocols, procedures, and policies; modifying databases and registries; developing confidential opt-out systems; hiring legitimate third-party redaction or removal services; establishing information-sharing agreements; and developing enforcement or compliance-monitoring systems related to statutory disclosure prohibitions. Award costs must be exclusively for protecting federal judges and their immediate family members as defined by statute.
Restrictions
Funds may not be used to purchase covered information from data brokers. Costs specific to protecting state, local, or tribal judges may not be charged to the award. Out-of-scope activities include activities that violate or facilitate violation of federal immigration law, violate applicable federal civil-rights or nondiscrimination law, or support prohibited legal services for removable or unlawfully present aliens, subject to the exceptions stated in the NOFO.
How to apply
Submit only one application to one funding category. Submit the SF-424 through Grants.gov by October 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET, then submit the full application and required components through JustGrants by October 22, 2026, at 8:59 p.m. ET. If multiple applications are submitted, only the most recent system-validated version will be reviewed.
Required materials
Required application components include the SF-424, Standard Applicant Information, Proposal Narrative, Budget Detail Worksheet, Financial Management and System of Internal Controls Questionnaire, and an MOU or letter of intent with each project partner. Applicants seeking priority consideration must complete the Agency Funding Priorities Inventory. Conditional materials include an indirect cost rate agreement, consultant-rate documentation, employee-compensation waiver, Tribal Authorizing Resolution, and applicable disclosures or high-risk-grantee justifications. Required disclosures and assurances must also be completed in JustGrants.
