FY26-27 Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy Grant Program

Summary: Florida funding for law enforcement agencies and medical examiner's offices to use forensic investigative genetic genealogy in violent-crime investigations and the identification of unidentified human remains.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement reimburses approved investigating agencies for forensic investigative genetic genealogy services. Supported activities include preparing qualifying SNP DNA profiles and conducting genetic-genealogy research to develop investigative leads in violent-crime cases or identify unidentified human remains.
Funding is awarded by case according to demonstrated operational need and FDLE approval. Testing and research must comply with applicable accreditation, procurement, database, departmental-rule, and federal-policy requirements. Awards have a 12-month project period from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. Monthly performance reports and an end-of-case summary are required.

Services may be provided by qualifying laboratory and genealogy vendors or by adequately resourced in-house genetic genealogists.
Restrictions
FIGG may not be used to identify potential witnesses or confirm named suspects. Fetal and stillborn remains are excluded. Funds may not be used to generate SNP profiles through a non-accredited or medical testing laboratory.
How to apply
Complete the FY26-27 FIGG Application and email it to [email protected]. Applications are accepted through June 30, 2027, or until available funds are awarded, whichever occurs first. Approved recipients execute a contract with FDLE, follow applicable procurement requirements, and submit proof of vendor payment for reimbursement. Monthly performance reporting and an end-of-case summary are required.
Required materials
A completed FY26-27 FIGG Application and a brief case narrative are required. The qualifying STR profile must be confirmed through a CODIS Specimen ID and/or a report from a Florida crime laboratory. Applicants must provide information sufficient to establish compliance with applicable case, technical, sample, and vendor criteria.
