Summary: Federal grants supporting the purchase or lease of body-worn cameras and development of comprehensive body-worn camera programs by eligible publicly funded law enforcement and correctional agencies.
The Bureau of Justice Assistance supports eligible publicly funded law enforcement and correctional agencies in purchasing or leasing body-worn cameras and developing comprehensive body-worn camera programs. The program is intended to improve evidentiary documentation, criminal investigations and prosecutions, documentation of public encounters, and protection of officers.
Separate competitions cover publicly funded law enforcement agencies and publicly funded correctional agencies. Certain authorized agencies, consortia, regional or state authorities, and State Administering Agencies may also qualify as intermediaries assisting eligible law enforcement agencies.
Who is eligible?
Applicant types: State governments; county governments; city or township governments; special district governments; independent school districts; public and state-controlled institutions of higher education; Native American tribal organizations other than federally recognized tribal governments; and other entities, subject to the detailed eligibility provisions.
Publicly funded law enforcement agencies and publicly funded correctional agencies funded by states, federally recognized Tribes, or units of local government. The source also identifies other units of local government and authorized agencies, consortia, regional or state authorities, and State Administering Agencies acting as intermediaries to assist eligible law enforcement agencies in performing law-enforcement functions.
